On the record

What the public record already says

Everything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.

How it came to be

The story so far

Siwa Scent is the olive oil line of Acacia, a craft and food enterprise working out of the Siwa Oasis in Egypt. Acacia takes its name from the African acacia, which by its own account holds on in the harsh deserts of the continent, and its catalogue runs from embroidery, halfa grass baskets and Siwan-motif textiles through to salt, jams, pickles, herbs and oil. The oil is published as Siwa Scent Extra Virgin Olive Oil, in 250 ml and 550 ml, from olives the producer states are planted, hand-harvested and cold-pressed inside the oasis; the same description credits them to what it calls the ancient olive trees of Siwa, a claim never formally dated.

Around the oil sits the rest of the operation, which the producer sets out plainly: a workshop led by Siwan women, run on fair wages, with staff trained in fair-trade principles; a children's centre staffed by trained Siwan women with support from professionals in Montessori education, special needs and child psychology; and a community garden combining cultivation and animal husbandry for local families. The same site carries Nestitch, a separate Siwa workshop brand it dates to 2020 and credits to the artisan Amani Fayez, which began working with local women artisans in 2023.
