Olive Auction built this page from public records so buyers can find the estate. Its own people can claim it at no cost — complete the story, list lots, answer buyers.
After a claim, we confirm by emailEverything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.
Séka Hills is the agricultural label of the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, whose land lies in the Capay Valley of Yolo County, northern California. Séka is the Patwin word for blue, after the hills ringing the valley that turn that colour in spring. The brand dates from 2011, but the olives came first: in 2008 the tribe planted 82 acres of high-density Arbequina, and in spring 2012 added 20 acres of Picual, Frantoio and Taggiasca at medium density.
The mill came online that autumn, a 14,000 square foot plant at Brooks that presses fruit within hours of picking, with a tasting room opening beside it in 2014. Planting carried on: 24 acres of Picual in 2013, a 217-acre super-high-density orchard acquired in the winter of 2016, another 40 acres of Picual in 2017, 80 acres of Arbequina in 2018 and 35 acres of Coratina in 2019. By the autumn of 2016 the harvest passed 50,000 gallons.
The oils are bottled as single varieties, Arbequina, Picual, Frantoio, Taggiasca and Coratina, and as a Tribal Blend. They sit inside a much larger farm: more than 25,000 acres in production, about 3,000 of them cropped and 12,000 grazed, with more than 1,200 acres held in permanent conservation easements. The tribe's own press material records Gold and Silver medals from Olive Oil Times across several harvests, and Best of Class and Gold at the California State Fair.
