What the public record already says

Everything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.

How it came to be

The story so far

Nobleza del Sur farms olive ground in Castellar, in the Jaén countryside, that the family traces to 1640, when Miguel Sánchez Sagra bought a grove at Los Añadios. Twelve generations later the Peñuelas-Sagra family still works it, and the holding has grown to more than 300 hectares across separate estates near the Guadalimar, each kept apart through milling and bottling. The family's move into production came with an almazara of their own, built to press the crop instead of selling it on.

The two varieties are picual and arbequina, and the estates map onto the bottles: Vista Alegre gives Centenarium Premium, a single-variety picual the producer draws from a centenarian grove and labels an aceite de pago; Campillo gives Juve Premium; Los Añadios, the original ground, gives Reserva Familiar. Centenarium is picked on the first October pass and cold-extracted within four hours of coming off the tree, taking ten to fourteen kilos of olives to the litre and finishing at 0.1 degrees of acidity.

The competition record the producer publishes runs long: Best in Class for Centenarium Premium at the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition in 2018, Gold there in 2024 and 2025 for the organic Ecológico Day, 99/100 in the Flos Olei guide for 2023, 2024 and 2025, an Extra Gold at Italy's BIOL prize in 2025, and Best Organic Production at Expoliva in 2026.
