What the public record already says

Everything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.

How it came to be

The story so far

Anastasis Magganas grew up around his family's olive trees near Kalamata, land that had been worked for more than a hundred years by the time he and three friends decided, in 2018, to build something around it. He'd studied mathematics and taught for a while; his sister Ioanna, a dermatologist practicing in Switzerland, came in as co-owner, and they brought on Vassiliki Skiada, a food chemist, and Manos Vournelis, an environmental engineer, to handle quality and packaging. The olives come mostly from around Pylos, still called Navarino by people who use the old name, in Messinia — groves Anastasis describes as having trees a century old. Koroneiki is picked there early, close to the sea breeze off the Ionian, and pressed within half an hour of coming off the tree, while the Athinolia used in the blends is grown further along the coast at Monemvasia. From early on the four of them tracked polyphenol content obsessively, and the oils have tested above 1,000 ppm most years since. That work carried them to the World Olive Center for Health's World's Best High-Phenolic list four years running, through 2023, and to a World's Best award at the NYIOOC that same year — their third straight year placing there.
