Méditerroir is the Ben Nejma family's company at Menzel Kamel, in the Tunisian Sahel. Its history page dates the holding to the 1950s, when, in its own words, the grandfather inherited his grandparents' land on the outskirts of Menzel Kamel, and it records 2011 as the year the family created Méditerroir and began the process of certifying its land, after which it invested in stainless steel equipment for bottling and storage. The producer's team page names Anis Ben Nejma as manager, Nabila Ben Nejma as quality controller, Souhaila Ben Nejma as managing director and Salah Ben Nejma as president. A 2022 BIOFACH exhibitor brochure issued by Tunisia's Agence de Promotion des Investissements Agricoles gives the company as Méditerroir SARL, created in 2015 and sited at Menzel Kamel, Monastir — a later date of creation than the 2011 on the producer's own history page, and the governorate the producer's own pages leave unnamed.
Tazamour, which the producer says carries the name of its region of origin, is described as a single-variety oil made exclusively from the small, strongly scented Chemlali olive, from the Tunisian Sahel in the eastern-central region of Monastir. Its page states that the olives are hand-picked between mid-November and early December, extracted the same day by mechanical pressing at below 26 degrees, filtered naturally by decantation, protected by inert gas at bottling, and held in tinted bottles stored underground against oxidation and heat. The producer presents its Demeter oil as the first Tunisian Demeter olive oil and as a grand cru, at 2,000 bottles a year; the Zaitoun range is given an acidity of less than 0.4 per cent, against a general figure of below 0.3 per cent on the range page.
On certification the producer states that Méditerroir has obtained one of the first PGI designations — protected geographical indication — in Tunisia, a label which it says certifies the place of origin, and that Tazamour was among the first oils to receive it. The same quality page names Ecocert, USDA organic, Demeter for two of its oils, an accredited laboratory for biological and chemical analyses, external audits and traceability, and a Fair for Life application begun in July 2020. The APIA brochure lists the company's international certifications as TN BIO, NOP and Demeter.
That APIA entry also records the company's awards as a gold medal and a Grand Cru Gourmet medal for Tazamour at the AVPA competition in France in 2022 and, in the United States, an NYIOOC gold for Damya Robuste with a silver for Damya Demeter. The NYIOOC's Official Guide to the World's Best Olive Oils carries no producer entry under Méditerroir, and holds the Damya brands under Massiva, a Tunisian producer which the same APIA brochure lists among Méditerroir's customers.
