Olive Auction built this page from public records so buyers can find the estate. Its own people can claim it at no cost — complete the story, list lots, answer buyers.
After a claim, we confirm by emailEverything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.
The Pierrakos family has worked the same stretch of land in Trinisa, Laconia, for four generations, a low sandy strip less than two hundred meters from the sea where the Evrotas river reaches the coast. Vasilios Pierrakos was the third generation to farm it, and when the rest of the family emigrated to the United States he stayed behind to run the roughly 5,000 Koroneiki and Kalamon trees largely on his own. By the winter of 2008 the work had worn him down, and he told his sons he was thinking about selling the groves. Diamantis and Dino, who had spent years flying back every harvest to help their father, decided to build a business around the oil instead of losing the land. In the spring of 2009 they started what they first called Our Family's Olive Oil, later renamed Laconiko for the region. Vasilios kept working the trees until he died during harvest in December 2016. His sons carried on the routine he had taught them, hand-picking the olives and getting them pressed within about four hours, and started sending the oil to competition. It has since picked up more NYIOOC awards than any other Greek producer in the event's history, including golds for its early-harvest Koroneiki and its rare, super-early Kalamon oil.
