Olive Auction built this page from public records so buyers can find the estate. Its own people can claim it at no cost — complete the story, list lots, answer buyers.
After a claim, we confirm by emailEverything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.
L'Aliva Marina is the oil of Domaine L'Asprellu, a six-hectare holding of the Marfisi family in Haute-Corse, in the reach of the sea air off the Gulf of Saint-Florent. It comes in two pieces: two hectares at Patrimonio on limestone terraces facing south towards the water, and four hectares at Casta on granite, looking south-west over the gulf. Some 1,100 trees stand on it, all local varieties, with Ghjermana and Aliva Nera making up 80 per cent of the orchard, Sabine kept on certain grafted trees, and a five per cent scattering of Pendolino and Maurino for pollination.
Sandrine Marfisi registered the business as an olive-growing enterprise on 1 April 2006. She had left a commercial engineering post in Paris for Corsica in June 1996 and married Patrice, from Patrimonio, whose family the domaine describes as farmers on both sides and whose maternal grandfather grafted vines at Patrimonio in the 1950s before turning to wild olives. The couple's own grafting started small — five trees, then twenty, then eighty — and Sandrine went through the agricultural lycée at Bastia from 2005 before coming into the holding full time. Olives are picked black by hand and milled the same day in the domaine's own mill at Patrimonio, with no water added and no filtering, each lot dated, and the oil certified under the AOP Oliu di Corsica. It took a Gold at the Concours Général Agricole in Paris in 2011, and a Gold in the Fruité Mûr class at the Concours National des Huiles d'Olive de Brignoles in 2020.
