Olive Auction built this page from public records so buyers can find the estate. Its own people can claim it at no cost — complete the story, list lots, answer buyers.
After a claim, we confirm by emailEverything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.
Huilerie Richard began in 1885 at Mollans-sur-Ouvèze, in the Drôme Provençale at the foot of Mont Ventoux, when Henry Richard, then 22, started pressing olive oil and making soap in a small artisan mill and selling both farm to farm with a mule and cart. The family describes itself as millers and pedlars across five generations since. Henry's son Marcel set up his own mill and soap works at Nyons in 1922 and picked up the name Taste d'Oli. When the 1956 freeze killed French olive trees, Marcel brought in Mediterranean oils to keep supplying his customers and composed the blends numbered 3 and 4 that are still made.
Since 1994 the Richard mill at Nyons has done one thing, the Nyons AOP extra virgin olive oil, milled only through December and January. Patrick Richard took over in 1997; after fire destroyed the Aouste-sur-Sye works in 2006 he rebuilt at Montoison as a mill for walnut, hazelnut and roasted rapeseed oils. Buying the Moulin d'Uzès and the Moulin des Pénitents at Les Mées in 2016 and 2017 brought the count to four mills and, by the firm's own account, four of France's AOP olive oils. Louis Richard joined in 2019 and Emma Richard in 2021. In 2024 the French agriculture ministry awarded the business a Prix d'Excellence, and in 2026 the 134th Concours Général Agricole in Paris gave its Nyons AOP oil a gold medal.
