On the record

What the public record already says

Everything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.

How it came to be

The mill, told properly

The GIE Jnane Ouezzane is an economic interest grouping at Beni Quolla, Ouezzane, in the Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima region. The Ministry of Agriculture's Terroir du Maroc registry profile records it as made up of 8 cooperatives and 264 producers, with the production, packing and processing of olives as its main activity, and describes its extra virgin oil as pressed cold, without chemical transformation, from olives hand-picked in the orchards of the region.

The oil carries the Ouezzane geographical indication. The national register of geographical indications and appellations of origin, published from Ministry of Agriculture records, lists Huile d'Olive Vierge Extra Ouezzane as entry 020, registered as an IG on 7 February 2014. In the sixteenth edition of the national competition for the best extra virgin olive oil, judged for the 2025/2026 season alongside SIAM, organised with the interbranch body INTERPROLIVE under International Olive Council rules and contested by 77 candidates from five regions, the ministry's published results place G.I.E. JNANE OUEZZANE (Tanger-Tétouan-Al Hoceima) sixth in the fruité vert léger category.
