What the public record already says

Everything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.

How it came to be

The mill, told properly

Funoli is the label of Göldere Gıda Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi, which the company's Hakkımızda page records as established in 2021 by İclal Arcak and Tolga Erkök, at Çamköy on the Milas–Ören road in Milas, Muğla. The page states that the oils are made from the South Aegean's endemic Memecik olive, gathered at early harvest and made in limited quantity, produced to FSSC 22000 food safety standards on Italian equipment, and that the oil carries the European Union's PDO designation of origin, bringing what it calls the flavour of the fertile mountains of Milas. The producer's entry in the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition's official guide adds that the olives are harvested early and milled in-house.

The designation covers the district the company works in. Milas Zeytinyağı was entered on the Turkish register as a menşe adı under number 201 on 6 December 2016, on file C2014/043 applied for on 24 June 2014 by the Milas Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and was entered in the European Union register by Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2020/2194 of 16 December 2020. The specification published in the Official Journal restricts the name to oil from Memecik olives grown in the villages and towns of Milas, and sets free fatty acidity below 0.7 per cent oleic acid, a peroxide value averaging 4.5 and not exceeding 20 milliequivalents of active oxygen per kilogram, at least 100 mg/kg of α-tocopherol and at least 100 mg/kg of total phenols.

Göldere publishes its own quality documents. Its certificates page carries an FSSC 22000 certificate in the company's name and an organic certificate dated 2024; its analysis page carries laboratory reports as scanned images. Its product listing states a polyphenol figure for each line: 770 mg/kg for the JUS bottling, 650-plus for Funoli Premium Göldere, 600-plus for the organic, 350-plus for the children's oil and 300-plus for the Gourmet. The About page says only that the company has taken the highest awards from centres such as New York, Berlin, London and Spain, naming neither body nor year; the NYIOOC guide, for its part, lists Gold awards to Funoli Goldere in 2024, 2025 and 2026 and to Funoli Organic in 2025 and 2026, all monovarietal Memecik.
