Monva takes its name from its founders. Francisco Montabes Calle and Araceli Vañó Martínez bought the Cortijo Virgen de los Milagros in 1971 and built Montabes Vañó, S.L. around it. The family's ground reaches back further: an ancestor, Lorenzo Martínez García, bought the Finca Los Caños from the Marquesa de San Miguel de la Vega in 1908, and the producer dates part of that grove's planting to the seventeenth century. In 1984 the company put 35,000 olive trees into Virgen de los Milagros where cereal had stood, and in 1997 installed its own bottling plant and sent first consignments to Japan and Korea.
The cortijo lies at Mancha Real, on the slopes of the Sierra Mágina range in Jaén, across 650 hectares of olive grove and protected woodland inside the Sierra Mágina natural park. Picual is the variety, and the oils are certified under the Sierra Mágina Denominación de Origen, with Dominus, Valle Mágina and Montabes among the labels.
Dominus Cosecha Temprana, picked in mid-October at the first stage of ripeness and milled below 21°C, carries the longest record. The Flos Olei guide has scored it upward since 2017 — 91, then 93, 95, 96 and 97 points — and at 98 points in every edition from 2022 to 2026, naming it Best Extra Virgin Olive Oil of the Year in the 2026 guide. Verona's Sol d'Oro placed it second in the world in 2024, and the International Olive Council listed it as a Mario Solinas finalist in 2014.
