What the public record already says

Everything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.

How it came to be

The mill, told properly

Domaine Villa Maroc is the olive oil label of the Coopérative Zoyout Essaouira, in the Essaouira area of Marrakech-Safi. The Ministry of Agriculture's Terroir du Maroc registry profile records the cooperative as created in March 2017 at Essaouira and made up of four women and two men, with olive oil and argan oil as its main activity, table olives planned, and a large part of the production certified organic; no certifier is named. The label's own site gives its address as Fraction Aït Yassin, Ouguerd, Essaouira, describes handpicking of argan nuts and olives from its cultivated groves by what it calls ancestral harvesting techniques, and states that extraction is mechanical, by modern cold press.

The link between label and cooperative is made in the Agro-pôle Olivier's competition reporting: the Trophée « Ibtissam Zine Fillali » for the best cooperative and GIE oil went to the oil Domaine de la Villa of the coopérative Zouyout of Essaouira. The report carrying that result is headed Volubilis Extra Vierge Maroc 2020 while describing the twelfth edition's prize ceremony, held on 1 February, as the 2019 trophy, and both labels appear in the same account. The Trophée Premium « Volubilis Extra-Vierge Maroc » is run by the Agro-pôle Olivier of ENA Meknès, created in 2007, under its initiator Noureddine Ouazzani, with an international tasting jury.

On 27 May 2025 the Ministry of Agriculture held a ceremony in Rabat, presided by minister Ahmed El Bouari, for Moroccan producers distinguished in international competitions that year. Reports by the state agency MAP, carried by Yabiladi and LeBrief, record the Coopérative Zoyout Essaouira as honoured for gold medals at the Geneva, Miami, Abu Dhabi and Istanbul international olive oil competitions, alongside the Coopérative Nour Mejjat and the Société Oléa Capital. In the sixteenth national competition for the best extra virgin olive oil, held alongside SIAM in 2026 with 77 candidates from five regions and organised with the interbranch body INTERPROLIVE under International Olive Council rules, the ministry's published results list COOPERATIVE ZOYOUT ESSAOUIRA in fourth place in the fruité vert moyen category.
