Olive Auction built this page from public records so buyers can find the estate. Its own people can claim it at no cost — complete the story, list lots, answer buyers.
After a claim, we confirm by emailEverything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.
Deortegas presses in Yecla, in the Region of Murcia, where the Ortega family had spent more than 35 years growing olives organically before building a mill of their own. Marcelo Ortega and Rafaela Ortega opened the almazara in 2008, which put grove, harvest, extraction and bottling in the same hands. The land runs to 200 hectares of organic, traditional, rain-fed olive grove carrying more than 33,000 trees across five varieties: arbequina, picual, cornicabra, hojiblanca and frantoio, each bottled on its own and also blended into a coupage of all five.
The farming is certified by the Consejo de Agricultura Ecológica de la Región de Murcia under the European organic scheme. Fruit is taken from the tree and never off the ground, picking begins in mid-October as the olives turn, and everything reaches the mill within six hours to be extracted below 27°C; acidity in the finished oils sits between 0.1 and 0.2 per cent.
The hojiblanca has carried the record furthest. By the mill's own account it scored 98/100 in the Flos Olei guide in 2020, 2022, 2023 and 2025, took a Gran Oro at Ecotrama in 2025, a place in the Evooleum Top 100 for 2025 and a Top 10 finish at the Biofach Olive Oil Awards in Nuremberg the same year, alongside a BIOL gold in 2024. The frantoio took first prize in the light-oils category at the Expoliva international competition in 2021.
