What the public record already says

Everything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.

How it came to be

The story so far

Bayt Zaytoun is an Egyptian olive oil brand built on the founder's family farm in Fayoum. Ahmed Azzam set it up wanting something intrinsically Egyptian, from the Arabic name on the label outwards, and told SceneEats in August 2021 that he wanted the brand image to celebrate produce grown on Egyptian land; olive oils differ from country to country, in his account, and Egypt grows very good olive fruit. His stated emphasis is control at every step, from the picking and handling through the pressing to storage, and on keeping the brand's Egyptian identity rather than shipping oil abroad in bulk.

The brand's own page, which Facebook's transparency panel dates to 27 February 2019, carries the name in Arabic script beside the transliteration, and set the range out in April 2020: extra virgin olive oil in one litre, 500 ml and 250 ml, plus a 250 ml infused line in four flavours, garlic, chilli, basil and rosemary. Beyond that the published record is sparse. No cultivar, grove size, acidity figure, mill detail or certifying body appears on either the page or the profile.
