Olive Auction built this page from public records so buyers can find the estate. Its own people can claim it at no cost — complete the story, list lots, answer buyers.
After a claim, we confirm by emailEverything here comes from public sources — award lists, certification registers, the territory inventories. The rest of the story — the family, the grove, the real age of the trees, this year's lab sheet — only the mill can tell, and it is the part buyers bid on.
Alonso began in 2006, when Abel Alonso and his sons set about planting olives on Fundo Cerro Colorado, in the commune of La Estrella in Chile's O'Higgins region. The estate runs to roughly 400 hectares, and the varieties in the ground reach across Spain, Italy and Greece: Arbequina, Arbosana, Koroneiki, Frantoio, Leccino, Picual, Coratina, Manzanilla and Nocellara. The first planting phase closed in 2009. In 2011 a mill went up on the property, sited so that the producer puts the gap between picking and extraction at no more than 90 minutes. The company behind the label is Agrícola Pobeña S.A., certified under Chile's Buenas Prácticas de Agricultura and carrying the AOS sustainable olive oil seal issued by ChileOliva, the national producers' association.
The competition record is long. At the NYIOOC World Olive Oil Competition the Coratina took Gold in 2017 and Best in Class in 2019, and the guide the competition publishes credits Agrícola Pobeña with 28 winning entries, 19 of them Gold. Four Alonso oils, Cuartel 64, Coratina, Picual and Obsession, each took Gold in the 2024 edition, and the Coratina and Picual repeated in 2025. Flos Olei, the Italian annual guide, has rated the producer 99 out of 100 in its 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2024 editions. By the producer's own count the tally now passes 140 prizes.
